This SITREP was written by Surita Rorie, Global SOF’s SOF for Life Manager.
The GSOF SOF For Life program is a comprehensive platform designed to ensure that SOF members, spouses, dependents, and Gold Star families thrive—not just survive—after military service. Membership is free for active-duty members, spouses, dependents, and Gold Star families. It focuses on three key pillars:
- Educate: Provide tailored training and academic opportunities for SOF personnel.
- Employ: Help members achieve meaningful careers post-service.
- Empower: Advocate for SOF resources and capabilities.
EDUCATE PILLAR
The Educate pillar equips SOF members and their families with the knowledge, tools, and opportunities needed to succeed during and after military service. Key resources include:
- SOF for Life Transition Guide – A comprehensive resource designed to help you plan and navigate your transition into civilian life.
- Scholarship Opportunities Guide – Explore a curated list of scholarships and educational programs tailored for SOF members, spouses, dependents, and Gold Star families.
- Career Readiness & Networking Opportunities – Access specialized training, resume and financial planning workshops, and career coaching to complement existing TAP resources. Participate in GSOF-hosted expos, trade shows, and forums to expand your network, gain industry insights, and connect directly with employers seeking SOF talent.
EMPLOY PILLAR
The SOF For Life Career Center is the primary mechanism for realizing our Employ pillar.
The Career Center provides a robust and centralized platform to navigate the transition from military to civilian life. The Career Center connects members to over 300 GSOF Corporate Partners, offering access to (on average) more than 50,000 career opportunities and 100+ internships across various industries.
For GSOF Corporate Partners, the Career Center is a complimentary benefit that provides access to a highly qualified talent pool. Through the Career Center, Corporate Partners can:
- Recruit top-tier candidates who thrive under pressure and in complex environments.
- Offer internships and career pathways that directly support transitioning SOF professionals.
- Strengthen their visibility within the GSOF community as trusted supporters of SOF families.
EMPOWER PILLAR
The Empower pillar focuses on transforming the collective insights, data, and experiences of the SOF community into actionable strategies that shape policy, guide resource allocation, and strengthen long-term SOF readiness. The most tangible platform is:
- SOF Imperatives Document – An annual document that highlights our policy-focused recommendations to support the special operations community.
