2020 GSOF Symposium - Europe is Officially Postponed to 2021

This post is a direct copy of a letter from Brigadier General Slawomir Drumowicz and Colonel (Retired) Stuart Bradin.

After careful and thorough consideration, it is with great disappointment that we announce the decision to postpone the 2020 Global SOF Symposium – Europe originally scheduled for 5-7 October in Warsaw.

Based on health and safety considerations, on-going limitations on large gatherings, and extensive travel restrictions, it is not possible for us to conduct the Symposium as we originally envisioned. We simply cannot convene the international special operations community in a meaningful way in the current environment. We are terribly disappointed, but the health and safety of our attendees, speakers, and partners must take priority.

The good news is that we have secured the event venue–the Warsaw Marriott– for 26-28 October 2021 so that we can execute the event as intended, next year. Together with our event planning partner, Clarion Events, we are doing tremendous work to plan an excellent agenda and impactful experience for attendees. The 2021 symposium will fulfill our collective desire to execute a world-class event to highlight Poland’s important contributions to European security and the significance of special operations forces globally.

August 15th will mark the 100th anniversary of the great victory by the Polish Army in the Battle of Warsaw, commemorated as Polish Armed Forces Day. We are disappointed that the Symposium will not be held in 2020 in order to pay tribute to this feat. But we salute the Polish soldiers, commanders, and brave, ordinary citizens who fearlessly stood against the Bolshevik invasion, saving Europe from the spread of communism at that time. Every Polish citizen should be proud of their forefathers’ valor.

We look forward to hosting everyone on 26-28 October 2021. Until then, we remain steadfast in our support of the international special operations community, those affected by the COVID19 pandemic, and frontline healthcare and other essential workers that are toiling tirelessly to keep us safe and healthy.

Sincerely,

Brigadier General Slawomir Drumowicz
Commander
Special Operations Component Command Poland

Colonel (Ret.) Stuart Bradin
