Retired Brigadier General (U.S. Army) Howard W. Yellen currently provides consulting services to various Defense firms assisting them in Capture and Proposal Management, Strategic Planning, Business Development and Government Liaison. With expertise in strategic planning, business management, marketing and communications, leadership, Rotary-wing aviation and U.S. special operations he provides access and advice for a wide array of small and mid-sized businesses desiring a business relationship with the Department of Defense.
Previously, he was Vice President of Special Operations Forces Contractor Logistics Support Services (SOF CLSS) for Lockheed Martin. His primary responsibility was executing a 10-year ID/IQ contract, valued at $5 billion. In this role he provided logistics support to U.S. Special Operations Forces (SOF) around the globe.
Mr Yellen was the Vice President for Business Development (Strategic Pursuits) in L-3 Communications, Integrated Systems Group in 2008. From November 2005 to December 2007 he served as the General Manager for Global Military Aircraft Systems (GMAS). This joint venture between L-3 and Alenia Aeronautica was a principal player in the successful pursuit of the $2.04 billion Joint Cargo Aircraft contract from the U.S. Army.
Mr Yellen retired from the United States Army in January 2006. While on active duty, he held a variety of senior leadership positions leading large multi-disciplinary professional teams and provided strategic direction to institute best business practices. He has over 30 years of aviation experience developed through multiple command and staff assignments in both special operations and conventional aviation organizations.
He completed his military service as Deputy Commanding General of U.S. Army Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg, N.C. In this role, he organized, trained and equipped five of the most unique units in the Defense Department. He served as the Chief of Staff of U.S. Special Operations Command in 2000-2001 and was the 6th Commander of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne). The 160th has compiled an unparalleled record of successful insertion and extraction of SOF, serving in almost every U.S. conflict around the world, conducting critical missions extreme in nature and often classified.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Temple University, a Masters of Science degree from the Naval Postgraduate School and a Masters of Arts degree from the Naval War College.
BG (ret) Yellen served as the President of the Army Aviation Association of America (AAAA) from 2013-2015 and remains on their National Executive Board.
