
Colonel (Ret) Hans ILIS-ALM is since January 2021 assigned to the Swedish Defense University, Centre of Special Operations Research. During the majority of his military career he has served in the Swedish Special Operations Community where his last position was Commander Swedish Special Operations Command.
His operational experience includes tours to Afghanistan, the Balkans and operations on the African continent. After his time in the Swedish SOF he served in several US Combatant Commands as well as in the European External Action Service. During his posting to US CENTCOM he held the brevet rank of Brigadier General. He was elected Chairman of the 48 Coalition Countries in the summer of 2017, a position he held until the end of his tour.
He holds a MSc degree in National Security Strategy from the US National War College and a certificate in Terrorism studies from the University of St Andrews.
Awards include; the Swedish Armed Forces Gold medal with sword, the French Armed Forces medal in gold, the French legion d´honneur and the US Joint Service Commendation medal. He has been awarded an honorary scholarship for his contributions in developing survival training (SERE) in the Swedish Armed Forces.
