Brooks’ Books and Spatially Networking

“When do I get my gold name tag?”

The question of the night on September 21st at the Global SOF Foundation’s Happy Hour and Book Signing Event at La Tasca in Arlington.  Nearly 50 partners and friends of the GSF came out in force–some of them Lifetime Members donning the coveted golden name tag.

Attendees had a great opportunity to network, enjoy some (free!) appetizers and discounted drinks, and look for openings to collaborate with one another.  And let’s not forget, everyone present got to meet author and lady of the hour, Rosa Brooks!

Rosa is a law professor at Georgetown University, a columnist and contributing editor for Foreign Policy, and a senior fellow at the New America Foundation. From April 2009 to July 2011, she served as Counselor to the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, and in May 2010 she also became Special Coordinator for Rule of Law and Humanitarian Policy, running a new Pentagon office dedicated to those issues. Brooks has also written a weekly column for the Los Angeles Times, and is an expert on national security, international law and human rights issues. At the Pentagon, her portfolio included both rule of law and human rights issues and global engagement, strategic communication, and she received the Secretary of Defense Medal for Outstanding Public Service for her work.

She graciously signed copies of her new book, “How Everything Became War and The Military Became Everything.”  Politics and Prose was on-site to sell those hardcover beauties, and well over half of the attendees purchased (at least) one!

The Global SOF Foundation will be holding more events like this across the globe to continue to bring the community together.

In the words of Stu..last week was OFF THE HOOK.  Less than a day after our Happy Hour and Book Signing with Rosa Brooks in Arlington, the GSF teamed up with Spatial Networks in St. Pete, FL to host a very informative Field Trip.  If you haven’t attended a GSF Field Trip yet…why?  With a great turnout of 30 GSF partners, Spatial Networks CEO Tony Quartararo and his team gave a tour of their trendy downtown office, a jaw-dropping presentation on their capabilities, and had an amazing spread of snacks.

Spatial Networks is a geospatial technology solution provider specializing in data acquisition, analysis, visualization, human geography, and management with emphasis on emerging and post-conflict regions.  On the field trip, Global SOF Partners and international liaison officers learned about the unique capability that leverages contextual expertise around the world, and how information provided by Spatial Networks can be applied to specific missions–whatever they may be.  Spatial Networks showcased how they can acquire and collect information anywhere in the world to answer questions only local residents would know.  Quantifiable ground truth is priceless and can provide an enormous edge regardless of market!

Keep an eye out for upcoming GSF field trips.  You can’t afford to miss these opportunities…but they are ONLY open to GSF Corporate Partners!
